I've been listening to The Walkmen non-stop since I came back from my little trip to NYC. I don't know what it is, some sort of withdrawals or something. I'm not sure. Either way, it's helped me re-appreciate this genius band.

I came across these great videos today on the Pitchfork: Forkcast blog today of The Walkmen live at the Monolith Fesitval in Denver, Colorado last month. Enjoy.
While on vacation in New York two weeks ago, I went to Webster Hall in the East Village for $1 beers and came across one of the best live bands I've heard in a while. I was totally blown away. I was just expecting a night of cheap drinks and crappy electro music but was delightfully surprised to find myself magnetizing towards the stage where, if I wasn't paying close attention, I could swear I was seeing the reincarnated spirits of Ray Charles, the early Beatles, Elvis and Little Richard jumping and jiving on stage.
Say hello to The Rhodes.
The Rhodes is a 4 piece Soul and Motown inspired band from New York. Their sound is very Motown inspired. Think of the early Beatles albums versus Ray Charles and a little bit of doowop thrown in. Actually, now that I think of it, they remind me a bit of that band in that movie That Thing You Do.
I (Lucas) was able get a hold of Derek Daunicht, vocalist and rythm guitarist for The Rhodes for a quick little Q&A.
There is a new Vampire Weekend track "Horchata" available from their upcoming album Contra for download on their webpage!
The track is classic Vampire Weekend you've come to love with a few new added twists. It has a fun bouncing beat with swirling strings and violins carrying the melody and introduces something I haven't heard in a Vampire Weekend song yet, a xylophone. A+
Vampire Weekend never ceases to amaze me with their music. It's the perfect soundtrack to a day at the beach, a long drive with friends, strolling through the parl.... really, anything you enjoy doing sounds better with Vampire Weekend playing.
After a long wait, Ryan Gosling's indie-horror band Dead Man's Bones is finally coming out with their debut album. The album comes out Tuesday, Oct. 6. They are currently streaming the album in it's entirety on their MySpace page.
"In The Room Where You Sleep" was redone, a bit to my disappointment. The live version (video below) had a rawer, haunting feel to it. The album version adds some organ to the song, which is actually pretty cool. Think of something you would hear at the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland. The thing is, the live version has grown on me for so long. Oh well, at least I have an mp3 of the live version too.
Another Dead Man's Bones song that has been circulating the blogosphere and YouTube didn't make the cut either. You can listen to it here though.
Dead Man's Bones - Name In Stone
Dead Man's Bones will be embarking on a tour in support for their debut album, with a few California dates thrown in. Next week on Oct. 9, they will be performing in Los Angeles for a benefit show. I will try to make it out for a show review!
